I was born into a musical family. My great grandfather Frantisek Zamiska was a famous singer of folk songs and was the lead singer in the church choir as well. My Aunt Susan Dziak and my Grand Aunt Emilia Zamiskova were composers, who wrote some poems and songs as well, which are traditional Kolackovs folk songs.
I started to play when I was 10 and won some awards for solo singing as a youngster.  Later my older brother Frantisek asked me to play the fiddle and sing with him, and we won a few awards - for example “Laureati makovickej struny” and also some international competitions in duet singing.
In 1997 I established our own folk band, ‘Brothers Zamiskovci’ along with my younger brother Peter (accordion), and later with our good family friend Jaro Dziak (double bass). In the early days our band had musicians like Janko Bogusky, Stefan Repka and Michal Matolak, all very good musicians.
My oldest son Paul Zamiska was introduced to the band in 2002 and he has made a very important contribution to the group and in 2006 my youngest brother Milan joined us to play the ozembuch.

The band's success is due in no small way to my wife Anna's encouragement, and I would like to thank her for her help and patience. I am also proud that my children Anna and Peter are carrying on the family tradition, playing our music in many competitions.
My wish is for my children to continue our traditional music from the Tatra Mountain area, helping to keep it alive for future generations to enjoy.
